Can You Swim or Surf After a Tattoo in Lombok?
Why a fresh tattoo and a surf session do not mix, and how to schedule your tattoo during a Lombok trip.

If your Lombok plans include surfing, diving or pool time, schedule those activities before your tattoo. A fresh tattoo needs time to heal, and the sea is not a clean place for healing skin. At Lalu Tattoo Studio we advise no ocean or pool for at least 14 days, and longer if the area has not fully healed.
Why wait before swimming?
Tattooing breaks the skin. Germs in recreational water can enter an open wound, and coastal water can carry organisms that cause serious infections. A waterproof dressing is not a reason to plan a surf session over a new tattoo. Pool time and prolonged soaking also conflict with normal healing.
Is day 14 automatically safe?
No. Two weeks is the studio's minimum guidance, not a guarantee that every tattoo has healed by then. Size, placement and your own healing can change the timeline. Do not swim while the skin is open, scabbed, peeling or irritated. Ask your tattoo artist if you are unsure, and seek medical advice for increasing redness, warmth, swelling, worsening pain, pus or fever.
How to plan a Lombok itinerary
Do your surf lessons, snorkelling and pool days first. Leave the tattoo for a point in the trip after those activities, with enough time to follow the aftercare instructions. Also consider sun exposure and friction from clothing or equipment on the chosen body area.
What if the tattoo gets wet in the sea?
If a fresh tattoo is exposed to coastal water, wash it promptly with clean water and mild soap, then follow the studio's instructions. If symptoms of infection develop, get medical care promptly rather than waiting for the next session.
Our aftercare section has the studio's washing and sun guidance. For a booking in Kuta Mandalika, tell us your travel dates and ocean plans through the homepage form or WhatsApp at +62 821 3826 988.
